Revenge of the Corny Dudes & The Masculinity Spectrum

What's driving the news: At the premier for Creed III, Michael B. Jordan got interviewed by a former classmate who had allegedly said he was "corny" in high school. As you can imagine, Michael B. may have a felt a way about it. You can definitely see that Mike B. was in his feelings about it as evidenced by his stance and salty expression, lol. You can watch the interaction below.

My thoughts: Many people read "corny" as weak and soft. It's often used pejoratively to diminish a man and imply "low-value" (to use a controversial Kevin Samuels term). It's generally accepted that women don't want corny dudes.

I would, however, argue that the corny man is the perfect balance of "masculinity" and should be preferable over other options. Here's my take (in bulleted format for easy digestion). I even made a cute graphic, lol.

  • Masculinity exists on a spectrum (like most traits, skills, abilities, etc.). See graphic below.
  • Corny-ness embodies, funny, vulnerable, kind, loving, silly, and patient.
  • The corny man also reserves about 5% of his personality for anger, seriousness, decisiveness, and when needed, swift justice.
  • The corny man is not too "thuggy" to be romantic and express his emotions.
  • We need more corny men to marry our daughters and raise our grandchildren!

Women should want a man who is corny but also has the capacity to "whoop a ninja ass" when necessary 😂. Tell me if I'm wrong.

The problem is that it's hard to identify such a man as most of his public persona is expressed as "corny" and it's almost impossible to discover the 5% of his personality that is capable of strength and executive decision making.

So instead, many women fall for toxic, thug-esque personalities because they perceive them as strong and capable of protecting them. Unfortunately, it's these types that typically end up causing them pain and emotional stress.

Revenge of the corny dudes

In case you haven't guessed by now (or if you haven't met me), I am the corny dude. As Snoop Dog would say, "he is I and I am him." When I was young, I was the guy that women thought was "too nice," "nerdy," or "not edgy enough." But if you really knew me, then you also knew that I had that 5% in me as well.

So, I understand why Michael B. Jordan would still be salty about being called corny. When he and Lori Harvey were together, he faced criticism for his corniness relative to some of Lori's previous boyfriends such as Future and Diddy.

Michael B. Jordan is winning so just as the title of Drake's (another man accused of being corny) latest album states, it's Her Loss.

Corny brothers stand up! Let me know your thoughts. Until next time.
