I'm a big fan of LeBron James as I'm also a native of Northeast Ohio. Plus, I've seen LeBron go from high school star to international megastar to newly minted billionaire with a B.
I'm also a huge fan of LeBron's community work. He has taken his city and put it on his shoulders. My STEM learning company, OASIS was fortunate enough to work with the I Promise School and let me tell you he's doing some great things by leveraging his popularity and platform to empower the next generation.
So if you don't like LeBron then we can’t be friends.
If you're not aware and LeBron James now has a show on YouTube, which used to be on HBO, where he gets together in the setting of a barber shop, and talks to celebrities, upcoming musical guests, and business superstars as well as athletes. During his show, he talks about controversial things hot topics, and also gets into the background of some of his guests. It's a great show and I think you should check it out.
The reason the shop hits home for me is because the barber shop has always been a safe space for Black men. Growing up I never really participated in a lot of the conversations as I was just a kid. As I became an adult, I really never went to the barber shop frequently enough to make friends with the barbers and some of the regular guests. But I can appreciate how the barber shop really is a community space for Black men and women to gather, to unwind, and to talk about some of the hot topics.
So if you ever get a chance to check out the shop on YouTube definitely do so. I think we're going to make reviewing the shop episodes a regular thing here on BeUtypop so stay tuned. And remember, "Always Be U."
